We are delighted to announce the release of the issue titled “La mortalité selon les causes de décès : approches spatio-temporelles” in Espace Populations Sociétés. This issue, directed by Mélanie Bourguignon, Yoann Doignon, Thierry Eggerickx, Jean-Paul Sanderson, and Sophie Vanwambeke, showcases important research that delves into the spatial and temporal dimensions of mortality.

Members of the INEQKILL project have made significant contributions:

  • Valentin Charlier analyses the geography of tuberculosis mortality in Belgium between 1889 and 1991;
  • Lise Bevernaegie examines trends in cardiovascular mortality in Belgium over more than a century, highlighting persistent disparities;
  • Audrey Plavsic examines the spatiotemporal dynamics of suicide mortality in Belgium from the 19th to the 20th century, highlighting the impact of economic and political crises on mental health outcomes;
  • Philippe Paeps traces cancerous tumors throughout twentieth-century Belgium;
  • Janna Dinneweth studies the evolution of neurodegenerative disease mortality from 50 years of Belgian data.

These contributions enhance our understanding of public health challenges and emphasize the importance of addressing spatial inequalities in health outcomes. We invite everyone interested in public health, epidemiology, and social inequalities to explore this insightful collection!
